A Guide to the NHS
For Asylum Seekers in the UK

This resource has been developed to assist staff to enable Asylum Seekers to access translated information on health services in England. 

 

We have produced National Guides, which are universal to NHS services throughout the  UK, and also Regional Guides specific to NHS services in the Leeds area only. The NHS Guides cover the following sections :

You are free to download and print the guides below.  We recommend you laminate the pages and create a booklet that can be left in your waiting area, or which can be handed to your service users to read through.  Each guide contains approximately 30-40 pages and is saved as a PDF file.  To view PDF files on your PC you many need to download software, BHI reccommends Adobe Reader which is free of charge:  http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/reader/
 
Please be aware that recent changes in entitlement to free NHS Services means that anyone in the UK without documentation, long stay visitors and anyone refused asylum or leave to remain (on final appeal, but not removed from the UK ), will be liable to be charged for any NHS services other than those provided by A&E departments or those outlined in the 1989 exemptions.
